Pravastatin’s Unique Non-Lipid-Lowering Effects 2000.7.28
Hyperlipidemia is often associated with thrombosis, as high platelet reactivity and fibrinogen levels increase blood viscosity when lipid levels are elevated. A comparative experiment involving pravastatin, simvastatin, and aspirin revealed that pravastatin is more effective than simvastatin, and simvastatin is more effective than aspirin. This proves that statins are superior to aspirin, and the aforementioned statins demonstrate clear protective effects on the heart, prevention of stroke, and beyond lipids: ① stabilizing plaques; ② reducing platelet-induced thrombosis; ③ restoring endothelial cell function; ④ reducing inflammatory responses. The first two effects are unique to statins.
