This disease was first reported in 1996 by Simons et al. In recent years, Chinese scholars such as Xu Jiazhang have persistently studied this disease and published several insightful findings. They first proved the pathogenicity of the virus and demonstrated that it can cause disease on its own, but most cases of hepatitis G occur concurrently with other viral infections, making the disease prone to chronicity and easy to progress to cirrhosis.
