Brief Notes on Esophageal Cancer, January 15, 2001
This disease ranks second only to gastric cancer in terms of incidence in Gansu Province. In the autumn of the Gengchen year, I treated a patient in Zhangye whose esophageal cancer was already in the advanced stage. Radiation and chemotherapy had provided some relief, but the relief was not sustained. When he came to me, he had difficulty swallowing and severe chest tightness. I prescribed Liu Wei Di Huang Tang combined with Tu Li Xiao Du Dan, adding Yuan Zhi, Chen Pi, and Xia Ku Cao. After taking 40 doses of this herbal preparation, his swallowing difficulty completely disappeared, the barium meal showed no lesions, and gastroscopy revealed normal mucosa in the esophagus and gastric fundus. Liu Wei Di Huang Tang has been scientifically proven effective against esophageal cancer, while Tu Li Xiao Du Dan combined with Chen Pi, Yuan Zhi, and Xia Ku Cao is based on the experience of Professor Zeng Junshan of Lanzhou Medical College. In addition to these, Qi Ge San, Si Qi Tang, Ban Xia Hou Pu Tang, Xuan Fu Dai Zhe, Shi Jin Gan Cao Xiao Xian Xiong, and other formulas are also options for treating esophageal cancer.
