6. Regarding Insufficient Milk Supply

Q: My baby is four months old and doesn’t eat much milk. I’ve manually expressed milk and used a breast pump, but still can’t meet the demand. Three courses of traditional Chinese medicine to increase milk supply haven’t worked, and drinking lots of pig trotter soup and bone broth hasn’t helped either. The doctor says to let the baby nurse more to stimulate milk production, but the baby won’t feed when not hungry. What are some good ways to increase my milk supply quickly? Are Western medicines effective?

A: Currently, there are no effective Western medicines for increasing milk supply. You can try stewing pig trotters with Mu Tong (less than 6 grams) and Wang Bu Liu Xing.
