Question: Apart from the heat-toxin blood-stasis syndrome in chronic hepatitis B, are there other syndromes associated with hepatitis B?

Answer: In TCM, the main syndromes of hepatitis B are liver depression and spleen deficiency, meaning stagnation of liver qi and deficiency of spleen qi.

• Liver Qi Stagnation: Bitter taste in mouth, dry throat, irritability, fullness and distension in the chest and hypochondrium.
• Spleen Qi Deficiency: Pale complexion, fatigue, shortness of breath, and lack of energy.

The heat-toxin blood-stasis syndrome you mentioned is only seen in the decompensated stage (late stage) of cirrhosis.
