Q: My nasal inflammation has flared up again recently. Every morning I have nasal discharge, sometimes mixed with blood, and occasionally my nostrils itch, causing the mucus to drip down on its own. What should I do? If I take TCM, how long will it take to recover? (I’m worried that long-term TCM use might harm my stomach, which is already in poor condition.)

A: Spring is the season when nasal inflammation tends to recur. According to TCM, spring governs wind, and both wind-cold and wind-heat can invade the lungs. Since the lungs open to the nose, the nose serves as the gateway for wind pathogens. Treatment for this condition should prioritize TCM; as for potential stomach damage, you can take stomach-protecting medications to mitigate the side effects.
