Answer: In traditional Chinese medicine, acne is referred to as "fire," because fire tends to rise upward, making the head and face prone to acne. Whether male or female, anyone who develops acne has elevated levels of androgens. For men, this indicates a need for a partner; for women, it suggests the opposite—low estrogen levels.
