6. Consultation on Hypertension and Cerebral Thrombosis in the Elderly

Q: My grandfather is 70 years old. Last year, he broke his left leg in a fall, and now he has been diagnosed with hypertension and cerebral thrombosis, accompanied by numbness in the hands, dizziness, and urinary and fecal incontinence. Despite more than half a month of intravenous infusion, there has been no improvement. How should we treat him?

A: Hypertension and cerebral infarction are common conditions among the elderly. It is likely that these conditions existed before the fall, as people with such ailments tend to have poor balance. Both traditional Chinese medicine and Western medicine can offer treatment options, but the effectiveness is slow. A comprehensive examination and systematic treatment are needed to gradually restore some functions.
