Q: I have a friend who is 21 years old. Every week before her period, she develops oral ulcers—sometimes so severe that she can’t even speak properly. She asked me to ask what’s going on.
A: This is due to immune system dysregulation during the menstrual cycle, resulting in oral ulcers. Therefore, this condition has an immunological tendency, indicating that the patient’s immune system is compromised and requires prompt treatment; otherwise, it could progress to Behçet’s disease or Reiter’s syndrome. In TCM, this is referred to as “heat entering the blood chamber,” and Xiao Chaihu Tang can be used as the main formula, with adjustments made according to individual needs to achieve therapeutic effects.
