A 20-year-old was diagnosed with uremia in May and is now undergoing dialysis. Can TCM treatment be used?
Answer: Generally, dialysis is indicated when blood urea nitrogen exceeds 21 mmol/L and creatinine reaches over 700 mmol/L. Once these thresholds are exceeded, dialysis cannot be easily stopped. As the saying goes, “There’s no turning back on the dialysis road.” So far, neither TCM nor Western medicine has found a way to pull dialysis patients off the dialysis path and back onto the road to health—there really isn’t.
