Professor Pei:
Hello!
As spring turns to summer, another year has passed in the rush of time. The wonderful moments we shared together during the Spring Festival seem so vividly before my eyes. I miss you terribly!
This year, I was unexpectedly assigned to Beijing for a two-month inspection of the Central Committee of the 16th National Congress. Due to the responsibilities I had to fulfill, I was unable to return to say goodbye to my father, leaving me with a lingering regret.
During the Spring Festival, I was able to spend some time with my family, and I was able to fulfill my filial duties. Both of my parents are in good health, and I am truly grateful for their support of my work.
After the National Day holiday, Yafang went on an overseas training program, and she is expected to return in a couple of days. I'm still the same—just spending more time in the grassroots areas.
Reading your letter dated July 29, I learned that you were working hard to provide healthcare services for the people while also compiling your collected works. You are in good health, and I am very pleased. I look forward to seeing the fruits of your medical research soon, and I hope you will publish a collection of essays in the future—both medical articles and personal reflections are contributions to the nation and the people. You are a kind-hearted person whose medical ethics and character are respected by all, and you are deeply involved in social and public causes. Many people seek you out and visit you, and you must be very busy. Please take good care of yourself. You enjoy playing table tennis, and I occasionally play table tennis too—I truly share a common interest. In the future, I will give you a table tennis racket. I am in good shape and often go for walks outdoors. In the future, I will definitely make more effort to exercise regularly.
With the upcoming 16th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, I will represent the party and travel to Beijing next month for the congress. In 1997, I served as a delegate to the 15th National Congress of Gansu Province, and in 2002, I was a delegate to the 16th National Congress of Inner Mongolia. These honors were bestowed upon me by my hometown, and they also came with great responsibility as party members. I cherish this honor and am even more grateful for the trust placed in me by the people—fulfilling my sacred duty as a party delegate.
I am sending two photos as a keepsake. One photo captures the Cape of Good Hope in South Africa, and the other shows the Venus de Milo statue at the Louvre Museum in Paris.
There is much more to say, but I sincerely invite you and your wife to visit Hohhot at your convenience—we could have a pleasant conversation together.
Wishing your whole family happiness and good health!
Li Min
