TCM believes that the key to the occurrence of tumors is "deficiency of righteous qi." The "Essential Readings on Medical Principles" states: "What accumulates is due to insufficient righteous qi, after which evil qi takes hold." During the Song and Yuan dynasties, Zhang Yuan, Li Dongyuan, Luo Tianyi, and others all made similar arguments about "nourishing righteous qi to eliminate accumulation." In recent years, reports of successful tumor treatment through righteous qi reinforcement have been increasing. The Longhua Hospital affiliated with Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine treated a case of advanced liver cancer using the spleen-strengthening and kidney-tonifying method. After two months of ineffective Western chemotherapy, they switched to traditional Chinese medicine, and the patient gradually improved. Three months later, his spirits were lifted, the ascites subsided, and he was discharged. They also used this method to treat a case of advanced breast cancer, and after four months, the tumor completely disappeared.

In 1978, the author treated a patient with a mediastinal tumor: Ju, a 48-year-old man with chest pain and shortness of breath, inner restlessness, dry cough without phlegm, and occasional difficulty swallowing. An X-ray confirmed a mediastinal tumor, approximately 10×9 cm in size. Given the relatively large size of the tumor, the surgical team recommended conservative treatment with traditional Chinese medicine, so the spleen-strengthening and kidney-tonifying method was applied, using Liu Wei Di Huang Tang combined with Er Chen Tang, adjusted up and down as needed. After taking over 100 doses, he felt that all symptoms had completely disappeared, and an X-ray confirmed that the tumor had shrunk to 4×5 cm. Subsequently, surgery was performed, and an elliptical tumor measuring 3×4×6 cm was removed from the mediastinum. The surface was smooth, with no adhesions, and the pathology report indicated a nerve fiber tumor.
