4. Heart-Spleen Deficiency

This pattern is commonly seen in young and middle-aged women. Clinical manifestations include headache that worsens after exertion, accompanied by shortness of breath and reluctance to speak, a pale complexion, insomnia with frequent dreams, palpitations, and heart flutters. The tongue is pale with little coating, and the pulse is fine or deep and fine. The main clinical feature is hypotension, so treatment should focus on tonifying qi and nourishing blood. The formula used is Gui Pi Tang. If there is also chest discomfort, it can be combined with Guan Xin No. 2; if there is cold intolerance and cold limbs, add Aconitum carmichaelii and Cinnamomum cassia; if there is poor appetite and abdominal distension, add Salvia miltiorrhiza, Aucklandia lappa, and Amomum villosum.
