People say that intestinal wind causes bleeding—why does the intestine have wind? It turns out that external wind enters the large intestine through lung damage, while internal wind is stirred up by the liver, affecting the blood. This formula uses herbs that clear fire and blood, which is also a general approach to treating blood-related illnesses. Only Fang Feng and Sheng Jiang are used to dispel external wind, while Wu Mei and Jing Jie are used to treat internal wind, establishing a rule for intestinal wind. This is based on the ideas of Zhang Zhongjing’s Bai Tou Weng Tang and the Ge Gen Tangs.
[Note] This formula is a modified version of the “Huai Jiao Wan” from “Shen Shi Zun Sheng Shu.” It is used to treat bleeding in the anus and rectum, with moderate efficacy.
