Numbness in Both Hands, Shoulders, and Arms Caused by Cerebral Arteriosclerosis, January 10, 1985

In the winter of the Year of Guihai, I was teaching at Zhongshan Night School. There was a class teacher named Cao Jun who had suffered from numbness in both shoulders and arms for 20 years, with no improvement despite numerous treatments. He sought my diagnosis and treatment. Upon pulse diagnosis, all six pulses were string-like and strong, and he reported additional symptoms such as dizziness and palpitations. Based on my diagnosis of cerebral arteriosclerosis, I determined that the condition belonged to the category of “internal wind.” Following the principle of “treat wind by first activating blood; once blood is activated, wind will naturally dissipate,” I prescribed Tongmai Ling Heji: red peony, Chuanxiong, safflower, agarwood, Salvia miltiorrhiza, frankincense, myrrh, turmeric, Rehmannia glutinosa, cinnamon twig, Asarum, woodruff, shepherd’s purse, Clematis armandii, and Notopterygium incisum. After five doses, the effect was evident. Further five doses not only eliminated the numbness entirely but also significantly improved dizziness and vertigo. Mr. Cao shared this formula with others, and six similar cases of numbness were treated with it, all showing positive results.
