Brief Notes on Hyperthyroidism, June 30, 1986
This disease can be treated with antithyroid drugs, beta-blockers, radioactive iodine, and surgery. Each treatment method has its own advantages and disadvantages. Drug therapy is convenient and safe, but the remission rate is low and relapses are common. Although radioactive iodine and surgery have higher remission rates, they can easily cause hypothyroidism, so it is crucial to carefully choose a treatment plan before starting to achieve satisfactory results.
Thiourea drugs: Patients under 40 should prioritize these drugs, which work by blocking the synthesis of T3 and T4: ① reducing infiltration of thyroid lymphocytes; ② inhibiting the production of thyroid autoantibodies; ③ lowering plasma levels of thyroid microsomal antibodies; ④ lowering plasma levels of thyroid-stimulating immunoglobulins.
