Preparation of Liver Cirrhosis Capsules January 23, 1995

Alum 200mg, fire nitrate 200mg, add a tiny amount of furosemide and amiloride (the amounts of both drugs are extremely small), grind all into powder, pack into 0.5g capsules, take 1–3 times daily, 1 capsule each time.

This product has liver-protecting, bile-promoting, diuretic, and anti-swelling effects, especially suitable for patients with liver cirrhosis and ascites, particularly those with cholestatic cirrhosis accompanied by ascites. The nitrate-alum mixture is a special remedy from “Jinkui Yaolue” for treating yin yellow, where yin yellow refers to chronic cholestasis. Both drugs have liver-protecting, bile-promoting, and diuretic, anti-swelling effects; alum is potassium aluminum sulfate, fire nitrate is potassium nitrate, both have potassium-supplementing effects, suitable for patients with liver ascites losing potassium, and can also compensate for the potassium loss caused by furosemide. Both can also strengthen digestion and appetite, making them ideal choices for treating liver-killing soil. Furosemide and amiloride complement each other—one expels potassium, the other preserves it—both remove sodium and water, enhancing each other’s effects.
