Prescription for Eosinophilia on August 16, 1995

Sea clam powder 24g, sea float stone 9g, fish gallbladder 1g (to be dissolved separately), cicada slough 5g. The fish gallbladder is baked and ground into powder before being taken orally, while the other three ingredients are decocted in water and taken in two separate doses. These three ingredients are meant to desensitize the body; cicada slough is a traditional wind-dispelling medicine, also intended to desensitize. Most cases of eosinophilia are caused by allergies, and Western medicine offers few effective treatments for this condition. Traditional Chinese medicine, however, often succeeds in clearing blood stasis and dispelling wind, as I previously demonstrated when treating workers at Factory 504 using this formula. This disease is characterized by an increase in eosinophils in peripheral blood, often accompanied by respiratory symptoms such as cough, chest tightness, shortness of breath, and asthma—most of which fall under the category of wind-cold asthma in TCM. Due to the long-term shortage of fish gallbladders, Mr. Zheng Sunmou from Fuzhou suggested substituting snake gallbladder and tangerine peel instead. If those are also unavailable, earth gallbladder and nanshang could be considered. The purpose of this formula is to clear heat, transform phlegm, open the lungs, and stop coughing; for cases with real fire in the lungs, Ma Xing Shi Gan Tang can be used; for spleen-stomach deficiency and cold, Si Jun Zi Tang is appropriate; for constipation, Meng Shi Gun Tan Wan and San Huang Purgatory Heart Soup can be used.
