More on Chronic Pancreatitis, August 22, 1996
Chronic pancreatitis is typically characterized by left upper abdominal pain, but in certain special cases, the pain may be located in the right upper or mid-upper abdomen. During the summer of the Bingzi year, I suddenly experienced sharp, cutting pain in my right upper abdomen, which puzzled me. After thinking it over, could it be a lesion in the head of the pancreas? So I administered cephalosporins VI and metronidazole via intravenous drip, along with a traditional Chinese medicine formula for gallbladder and pancreatic syndromes, and the illness greatly improved within three days. Around the same time, another patient in the ward had right upper abdominal pain. Multiple examinations suggested inflammation, with no visible gallbladder and elevated pancreatic amylase levels in both blood and urine, leading to a diagnosis of chronic pancreatitis. Antibiotics combined with traditional Chinese medicine (modified Fufang Chaihu Tang) quickly relieved the symptoms.
