Headache Caused by Stiff Neck—April 15, 1997
This is based on the experience of Professor Zeng Junshan, a traditional Chinese medicine doctor. A stiff neck can cause persistent occipital and cervical pain, sometimes extremely severe and long-lasting, worsening with coughing or deep breathing. Such pain is often accompanied by a history of recurrent stiff necks, more pronounced upon waking, especially when using a high pillow or an uncomfortable pillow. Professor Zeng found that patients with this type of headache have five tender points on the back of the scapula, located at the base, edge, and outer tail of the scapula. By first pressing these tender points, three can be confirmed, and applying acupressure massage for 10 minutes each time, morning and evening before bed, yields excellent results. Previously, this kind of headache was often misdiagnosed by ordinary people, and I myself had also misdiagnosed it! Professor Zeng's method can be said to fill a major gap in medical knowledge.
