New Insights into Chronic Nephritis, May 20, 1998
During the Wu Yin spring, I treated Wang, an employee of the railway bureau, who had suffered from chronic nephritis for many years, with no improvement despite numerous medications. After administering white reed roots, stone fern, Jisheng Shenqi, psoralea corylifolia, morinda officinalis, epimedium, codonopsis pilosula, astragalus, coix seed, artemisia capillaris, stephania tetrandra, talc, Eclipta prostrata, and ink plantain, after ten doses, proteinuria dropped from (++++) to (+); after another ten doses, it completely disappeared. There is a mnemonic for this formula: “White stone, Jisheng, breaking Ba Xian, adding four waters and grass lotus”; another formula is: “Stone vine, white artemisia, big soap gold, adding red peony and stephania tetrandra.” Yet another formula is: “Loquat, mountain yellow, rabbit, two hundred and four.” These three formulas can be regarded as the “three treasures” for treating kidney diseases—one suited for patients with kidney deficiency, two for those with spleen deficiency, and the third for those with neither spleen nor kidney deficiency. For long-standing conditions that have entered the meridians, Gui Zhi Fu Ling Wan and Yi Shen Tang are recommended.
