Traditional Chinese Medicine Treatment for Gastric Cancer, June 1, 1998
Professor Hong Ziyun from Hubei University of Traditional Chinese Medicine treated a case of gastric mucosal differentiated adenocarcinoma, presenting with persistent, severe epigastric pain that worsened intermittently, accompanied by a burning sensation. He used Sichuan pepper, dried ginger, asarum, black plum, coptis, pinellia, poria, salvia miltiorrhiza, coix seed, citron, magnolia bark, turmeric, red peony, stephania tetrandra, houttuynia, and hemiphragma hookeri. After seven doses of decoction, the condition significantly improved, and all symptoms disappeared.
Note: This formula is essentially a modified version of the Black Plum Pill, with Sichuan pepper, dried ginger, asarum, black plum, and coptis being the main ingredients of the Black Plum Pill. Pinellia, magnolia bark, coix seed, and poria target the stomach, helping to remove dampness and reverse qi stagnation, thereby restoring stomach qi. Salvia miltiorrhiza, red peony, and turmeric promote blood circulation and resolve stasis, specifically addressing long-term stagnation in the stomach. Stephania tetrandra and houttuynia clear heat and detoxify, suppressing inflammation in the stomach. Mnemonic: “After the Black Plum Pill, golden peony, red peony, pinellia, magnolia bark, coix seed, and houttuynia—stephania tetrandra and houttuynia work together to relieve stomach pain effectively.”
