Case Study on Insomnia, June 28, 1998

During the Wu Yin summer, I treated an elderly woman suffering from insomnia for many years, with no improvement despite numerous treatments. Upon pulse diagnosis, signs of arterial sclerosis were evident, with blood pressure at 150/100 mmHg.

I prescribed a formula consisting of pinellia,羌活, agastache, coix seed, horsetail, độc hoạt, weiling xian, Anemarrhena asphodeloides, poria, chuanxiong, fried jujube seeds,柏子仁, acacia bark, wisteria vines, raw dragon bone, and oyster shells.

After seven doses, the patient showed marked improvement, and the decade-long illness was finally cured. The patient expressed gratitude, saying, “You truly are a divine healer!” In general, for insomnia, I often use Guipi Tang combined with Jujube Seed Decoction, which is a commonly used official prescription, but it only works for patients with low blood pressure. Later, I added summer枯草, raw oysters, white peony, licorice, privet, schisandra, and fried jujube seeds; additionally, I included summer枯草, raw oysters, white peony, huangqin, pinellia, salvia miltiorrhiza, Anemarrhena asphodeloides, schisandra, and fried jujube seeds.
