Professor Pei:

Hello!

After my father passed away, I was consumed by immense grief, and his image and laughter constantly haunted my mind. During his illness and while handling his funeral arrangements, I should have returned home to show filial piety—but as the saying goes, loyalty and filial piety cannot always be fulfilled simultaneously. Because I was working in Bayan to help organize efforts to combat SARS, I was deeply committed to national affairs, and I was unable to return to bid farewell to my father. This left me with lifelong regrets.

During my father's illness, you showed him countless acts of care and concern—your visits, your search for doctors and medicines, and your generous assistance all left a lasting impression on me. You were truly a source of genuine affection from our predecessors and friends. I extend my deepest gratitude to you! I will use my longing for my father as motivation to work hard, so that I can comfort his soul and repay the love and care our predecessors and friends have shown us.

Wishing you a happy life, good health, and success in your work!

I have received your letter, and I am deeply moved—truly, it is only when we go through painful trials that we truly come to appreciate the beauty of life. During my father's illness, you and Cunwen traveled long distances to visit him twice; I will never forget those moments.

Sincerely,

Yang Limin
