VI. Tuina Treatment
Tuina is simple, easy to perform, and effective; young and middle-aged patients can see results after 3–4 treatments, while elderly patients may need a bit longer. Specific methods are as follows.
(1) Patient lies on back, legs bent, abdomen relaxed. Therapist stands on the patient’s right side, uses palm to gently massage the abdomen clockwise for 10 minutes; then uses palm to press on Qihai and Guanyuan acupoints for 5 minutes, finally uses thumb to press on Zusanli acupoint for 3 minutes.
(2) Patient lies on stomach, therapist stands on the patient’s left side, uses palm to gently massage along both sides of the midline of the patient’s back, about 1.5 inches apart (using finger-length units), from bottom to top (from sacrum to shoulder, with emphasis on Pishu and Weishu acupoints), for 10 minutes.
(3) Patient sits, therapist stands behind the patient, uses thumb to press on the Baihui acupoint on the top of the head for about 5 minutes.
