3. Liver Diseases
Based on the fact that chronic hepatitis leads to fibrous proliferation in liver tissue, people have also tried using activating blood circulation and removing stasis as a treatment for chronic hepatitis, with varying degrees of effectiveness. The First Infectious Disease Hospital in Beijing employed activating blood circulation and removing stasis as the main treatment for eight severe cases of hepatitis, resulting in a mortality rate of only 37.5%. In contrast, another group of eight patients with similar body weights received standard integrated Chinese–Western treatment as a control group, with a mortality rate of 83.3%. This demonstrates that activating blood circulation and removing stasis has unique advantages in treating severe hepatitis. The Shanghai Infectious Disease Hospital formulated a decongestion decoction containing peach kernel, safflower, agarwood, moneywort, rhubarb, mirabilite, and chuanpiao, using it to treat jaundice-type infectious hepatitis, achieving satisfactory results. The rapid improvement of symptoms and swift recovery of liver function were unmatched by ordinary liver-protective treatments. In the Shanghai area, Shixiao San, Xia Yu Xue Tang, and Pingdi Mu were also used to treat persistent and chronic hepatitis, while Dang Gui, Sanleng, E Zhu, and Bi Jia Jian Wan were used to treat various causes of splenomegaly and cirrhotic ascites in over 200 cases, all yielding good results. The Zhongshan Hospital of Shanghai First Medical College used a basic formula for activating blood circulation and removing stasis (rhubarb, peach kernel, earth turtle, angelica, red peony root, mirabilite, and salvia) to treat 18 cases of protracted and chronic persistent hepatitis and 18 cases of early-stage cirrhosis, with 70–80% of cases showing symptom improvement and one-third experiencing shrinkage of the liver.
