3. Eczema

Patient Wang, female, 40 years old. She developed the condition one week ago, initially presenting as patchy erythema on the face, followed by the fusion of papules and vesicles into larger patches that spread outward, with some vesicles becoming eroded and exuding fluid, accompanied by intense itching. Tongue coated with yellow grease, pulse taut and rapid. Western medical diagnosis: acute facial eczema. Teacher Pei treated it by clearing heat and removing dampness, while nourishing blood and cooling blood. Prescription: poria 12 g, alisma 10 g, sophora 20 g, black snake 0, white fungus skin 15 g, phellodendron 10 g, earth poria 12 g, rehmannia 12 g, angelica 10 g, xuan shen 10 g, dan pi 10 g, dandelion 15 g, houttuynia 15 g, decocted in water and taken once daily. After taking the above prescription for seven doses, the redness and exudation on the affected skin decreased, with local scabs forming, but itching persisted. The prescription was adjusted by removing dandelion and houttuynia, adding chuanxiong 6 g and red peony 10 g, and after another seven doses, she was cured.

Note: The causes of eczema are extremely complex, generally believed to be related to allergic reactions. Teacher Pei, from a traditional Chinese medicine perspective, believes that the disease is caused by external damp-heat infiltrating the blood and triggering wind-related symptoms. In the early stages of treatment, the focus is on clearing heat and removing dampness; in the later stages, the emphasis shifts to nourishing blood and calming wind.
