4. Urticaria

Patient Zhao, male, 40 years old. For the past two months, he has experienced intermittent itching on both lower limbs, accompanied by round wheals of varying sizes, bright red in color. Tongue red with thin yellow coating, pulse floating and rapid. Western medical diagnosis: urticaria. Teacher Pei treated it by dispersing wind, clearing heat, and nourishing blood. Prescription: atractylodes 6 g, dandelion 15 g, red peony 10 g, double flowers 10 g, dan pi 10 g, rehmannia 12 g, ground ivy 10 g, baibu 10 g, peach kernel 10 g, sophora 15 g, white zhi 6 g, white su skin 15 g, forsythia 15 g, windproof 12 g, black snake 6 g, ginger 6 g, yellow zhi 15 g. After taking the above prescription for seven doses, the frequency of itching attacks decreased compared to before, and the prescription was adjusted by removing forsythia, adding angelica 10 g and continuing for another seven doses, until he was cured.

Note: Urticaria is caused by an increase in local histamine due to various allergenic factors, leading to dilation of small blood vessels under the skin and mucous membranes, resulting in localized edema, often occurring in episodes. Teacher Pei believes that the disease is caused by wind-pathogen combined with dampness, leading to disharmony in the blood vessels. In treatment, in addition to dispersing wind and removing dampness, he also adheres to the principle of "treating wind first, then treating blood; when blood flows, wind naturally dissipates," giving equal importance to dispelling wind and nourishing blood. The effect has been quite good.
