"Plasma Purification" Therapy (Blood Washing Therapy) for Hyperlipidemia as of April 19, 2001

Hyperlipidemia refers to elevated levels of total cholesterol and triglycerides, with low-density lipoprotein exceeding normal levels and high-density lipoprotein inversely correlated. Hyperlipidemia is the most significant risk factor for coronary heart disease, angina pectoris, myocardial infarction, and cerebral infarction. It goes without saying that preventing and treating hyperlipidemia can significantly reduce the incidence of these diseases, thereby improving work capacity and extending life expectancy. First, one should follow a light diet, minimizing greasy foods, fatty meats, animal offal, and egg yolks, while eating more vegetables, beans, and fruits, quitting smoking and alcohol, and increasing physical activity and exercise. When checking lipid levels, it is also advisable to test SGPT, CK, BUN, and Cr, since most lipid-lowering drugs can harm liver and kidney function. If any of these indicators rise, the dosage of lipid-lowering medication should be reduced or discontinued promptly. Commonly used lipid-lowering drugs include Vitamin P, Vitamin PP, Panax Notoginseng, aspirin, atorvastatin (combined with Mao Dongqing to form Xinmai Ning), Alaska deep-sea fish oil, and linoleic acid (the Yishouning preparation was once popular in China in the 1960s). In recent years, statins have brought good news to patients with hyperlipidemia, offering reliable efficacy and forward-looking preventive value. Numerous foreign studies have shown that statins can significantly reduce mortality from coronary heart disease and hypertension by lowering TC and TG to minimal levels, thereby restoring some atherosclerotic arteries to normal. Currently available statins in China include: ① Simvastatin; ② Pravastatin. Generally, they are taken once daily before bedtime, at a dose of 20–40 mg. Statins can damage liver and kidney function, so individuals with elevated transaminases (SGPT) or BUN should avoid them. Additionally, these drugs may cause muscle pain and tenderness, leading to elevated creatine kinase (CK).
