Case Study on Purpura Nephritis March 9, 2001
Patient Wang Peng has suffered from purpura nephritis for many years, with proteinuria (+ to +++), and hematuria (++ to +++). Initially, I treated him with Jisheng Shenqi Tang with added ingredients, followed by Shiting Baiyin Tang with added ingredients, both of which showed some therapeutic effect. Finally, I prescribed Bashan Heji: Loquat leaf 10 g, Chinese yam 10 g, Polygonatum odoratum 20 g, Dodder seed 20 g, Euryale ferox 20 g, Rosa laevigata 20 g, Ligustrum lucidum 10 g, Eclipta prostrata 10 g, Codonopsis pilosula 10 g, Atractylodes macrocephala 10 g, Poria cocos 10 g, Donkey-hide gelatin 10 g, Charcoal residue 10 g, Angelica sinensis 10 g, Gardenia jasminoides 10 g, Cortex Moutan 10 g, Salvia miltiorrhiza 20 g, Rehmannia glutinosa 12 g. Decoct in water and take one dose daily; after taking 20 doses, proteinuria decreased from (++) to (-), hematuria decreased from (++) to (-), and microscopic examination showed (-). This case demonstrates that the treatment of purpura nephritis should combine spleen-tonifying and kidney-nourishing approaches, with Bashan Heji being the preferred choice; Afa Fang can also be used as an alternative.
