Fresh herbs containing volatile compounds are heated in water until boiling; the volatile components rise with the steam, and the distilled liquid collected through cooling is known as lotion. Typically, lotions have a refreshing aroma and are easy to take orally—such as Yin Hua Lotion and Bi Pa Lotion.
